With Over the Air 2013 coming to a close last Saturday, I took some time to reflect on some of the more memorable talks given over the two-day event. Mobile and web performance guru Jon Arne Sæterås' presentation was particularly informative, and inspired me to write a quick summary for people that did not get the chance to see it live in person.

A great time was had by all at the IBC show in Amsterdam and we would firstly like to thank everyone who came to visit us and learn about device detection and content engagement, secondly we would like to thank IBC for managing such a great event.

Content distribution has come a long way. The first television sets were made commercially available in the late 1920s, just a few years later saw the first mass produced television sets.

At IBC 2013 in Amsterdam, there are a small but significant number of exhibitors focused on remote controls. The most significant innovation is the use of Bluetooth to replace infrared and placing a microphone into the control to enable voice control of the TV and set top box. Some vendors have also turned the control into a pointing device such that it can be used to move an on screen cursor. Other than these, the remote control doesn't look like its set to change.
